One day may come when you totally lack rice vinegar in your kitchen, how will you do? Then discover with me the top 5 alternatives to rice vinegar.

You are on your way to prepare your dish and you will realize that rice vinegar is missing, do not panic! There are several foods that can be used to enhance the beautiful and sour taste of rice vinegar in your dishes.

What is rice vinegar?

Rice vinegar is generally known as rice wine vinegar, it is a type of vinegar made from fermented rice.

In other words, rice vinegar undergoes two processes for its fermentation, the first one is to first transform the sugar into alcohol (rice wine) and then into acid.

The result after these two processes gives us a slightly sour taste. Systematically, rice vinegar is surprisingly sweeter than red wine, but not as sweet as makgeolli (aka mirin).

This product is a very important ingredient in many Asian dishes. It is also used to add flavour to sushi rice, dressings, sauces, pickles and stir-fries. Depending on the type of rice used, there are varieties of vinegar such as white, brown, black and red.

Rice Vinegar Alternatives

Champagne vinegar is another alternative in the world of delicious wine vinegar, it can considerably replace rice vinegar. It should also be remembered that It is really an excellent ingredient in seafood sauces and also marinades.

4. Sherry vinegar

However, rice vinegar and lemon juice leave behind them, in your dish, a good citrus flavor. This flavor will depend on the recipes: it can work or not according to your recipe.
